😊 About our venue host
The AMFREC began life as a mustard mill, with Ann’s family running a high-end furniture business for three generations. After a devastating fire, the Grade II Listed former mill has been transformed into a community space for events and exhibitions with a strong focus on makers and creatives.
Ann herself, who worked in the oil industry in the 1980s, has returned her family’s mill to its former spirit of furniture and upholstery making and now runs a small makers’ business within the mill, as well as offering courses in pottery, upholstery and the creation of bespoke cushions and soft furnishings for the home.
Nick is a celebrated director who filmed one of the earliest music videos with Kate Bush and worked with stars including Diana Ross. His impressive career includes current affairs and science programming, alongside the much-loved children’s television series Fraggle Rock. As an entrepreneur in his own right, Nick has also been a pioneer in clean energy.
Together, this inspiring couple have dedicated themselves to championing Amber Valley and Derbyshire as a destination, with AMFREC serving as both a thriving community hub and their family home.
